Bank Clearance
|
2012 bank clearance is probably not going to
involve the club this year as the ongoing bank works will probably
be doing the work for us!
|
|
|
Hill Farm gets a trim today 3rd March 2011
| Today saw 3 GWFFA members plus 1 non-member
giving Warden, Paul Jones, a hand with clearing the bank at Hill
Farm. |
| Mick White, John Vincent, Colin Brett along with
John Sears turned out on a bitterly cold day. |
| Self set willows plus many bramble bushes got the
chop in this the final clearance of the close season. |
| Much bank space is still lost to the now mature
trees that cannot be felled without the permission of English
Nature, |
| I doubt very much that will be forthcoming. |
| The section cleared today was from the car park
to the stone jetty on the point. |
| Sorry no photos today, too busy to get the camera
switched on! |
GWFFA Members give Plummer a pasting
| 24th February 2011 |
| Another clean up of the overgrown banks at
Plummer |
| Aided by Warden Paul Jones with some power tools,
7 club members made even better progress this week. |
| Clearing all those annoying willow shoots both in
and out of the water, |
| plus clearing a lot of the bank side vegetation
that ruins your backcast! |

Paul dealing with the willow shoots.

Even the club pensioner turned out masquerading as Ray Mears!

Making way for those low backcasts.

Busman's holiday for our local farmers. |
| Harley Smith [Team Leader!!], Paul Stevens and
Colin Brett spent 4 hours trimming self set willows |
| on the Plummer bank today 8/02/2011. |
| All that remains to do is get the banks cleared
of thorn bushes and trim some of the overhanging branches. |
| The heavier work will need the use of chain
saws, hopefully this will be the task on the 24th February |
 |
| A short section of Plummer before Paul Stevens
got to work. |

| The end product!! Good job Paul!! |
GWFFA Members tackle Savages Point willows
|
4 GWFFA Members tackled the self set willows along
Savages point today [3/02/11]. |
|
Together with Wild Life Trust manager Aidan
Matthews the infamous 4 spent 5 hours cutting sawing and piling |
|
the willows onto a bonfire on the lake shore. This
work will make Savages point fishable again after several years of
restricted access. |
|
Removing the willows has also opened up the view
from the bird hide on the point. |
|
Another team from GWFFA also tackled the Seat bank
around the Sludge Lagoons with the assistance of Warden Paul Jones. |
|
Harley Smith the team leader hopes to organise
another clearance day in the near future when we will concentrate
our efforts on Plummer |
